Serena Shouldn't Have To Mentor Sloane While Still Competing

The issue of racial diversity in sports and in general is a detailed topic that will not be resolved in a single blog post. This is not about blacks in tennis or even women in tennis but about the relationship between two people: Serena Williams and Sloane Stephens.

Recently, there seemed to be a beef between tennis great Williams (who is my absolute FAV) and an up-and-coming tennis start Stephens.

In a recent interview with ESPN the Magazine, Stephens spoke out about the status of their relationship: “She’s not said one word to me, not spoken to me, not said hi, not looked my way, not been in the same room with me since I played her in Australia.”

Stephens quickly back-pedaled in the days following her statements, saying on Twitter that they had spoken to each other and resolved whatever issue there was. Both of their camps must have gotten together and decided that the negative publicity was unwanted.

I interviewed her for the November 2012 issue of Sista's Keeper Magazine & she said that her and Serena had a "great relationship". She must have been hurt after meeting her idol and beginning this great friendship that seems to have waned recently after a few unanswered phone calls, text messages and BBM's. However, Sloane may have gotten a little too comfortable with their relationship and forgot that Serena is still competing and might just be busy or not in the mood to "girl talk".

Serena is the ULTIMATE competitor so I could see her getting a little salty after Sloane made a name for herself by beating her at January's Australian Open. She sent out a seemingly-cryptic subtweet after that match, starting simply "I made you."

However, the tennis season was in FULL swing  at the time and I can understand if Serena has her game face on. She just got beat by a lesser-ranked player after the AMAZING year that she had last year.

I don't think that Serena was willing to be a mentor at the time and give Sloane a "how-to" guide on beating her and she may not have wanted to engage in deep conversations for the sake of focusing on competing...just "hi" and "bye".

My take is this: both of them are wrong in this. Stephens got in her feelings after not hearing from Serena for a while and Williams saw all of the attention that Sloane was getting from winning their match and she thought that people were trying to replace her.

While it would be great if Serena takes on a mentor role with Sloane, people have to realize that Serena is STILL NUMBER 1! She is still playing, still a contender if not front-runner in ANY tournament or Grand Slam that she is entered. If Serena were retired or on another extended break from tennis, then YES she should serve as a mentor to Sloane. That may come later, but not now because they are still competitors.

Give Cam Newton a Break

Let me preface this post byacknowledging my bias for Cam Newton & my hometown team, the CarolinaPanthers. However, I guarantee that I have done thorough research & backedup my opinions with facts (as always).

Cam Newton is a 23-year-old, 2nd-yearstarting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers; the franchise player who wasbrought in to turn around a team that has had it’s fair share of ups &downs during it’s 17-year existence (We had a 1-15 record in 2001 but made itto the Superbowl 3 years later in 2004). He is a new breed of quarterback, throwinglong passes to Steve Smith and Brandon Lafell as well as running the ball for first downs and touchdowns.

He has won on every level so far...in high school, at Blinn College & a Division-1 national championship at Auburn...so clearly he is not used tolosing, nor does he like it. When you have done nothing but win for the past few years and become accustomed to it, it takes a while to getpast that and keep working. Cam Newton does just that: each week, he goes back in to watch film and practice hard to prepare for the next game.

Maturity is something that comes with experience and while I agreethat Cam does need to grow up, again he is only 23 and I know some people OLDER then him who are not mature. The pressure of being the Heisman Trophy winner,#1 draft pick, and franchise player may be something that takes him a while to get usedto and deal with. However, that does NOT mean that he can't or won't deal with it. I hear sportswriters and commentators (and bloggers...LOL) talk about he's not mature but it may take some time to loosen up and get that monkey off your back to win.

I am a former athlete &understand the most important thing with both players and franchises inprofessional sports is WINNING. That’s why the praise for Cam has gone down andthe criticism of him has gone up, especially when he does his “Superman”touchdown celebration when the team is losing.

But as the leader of the team, he is going to face criticism regardless. If he were to blame the defenseor coaching staff for a loss, the fans and media (both local and national)criticize him and say that he is “pouting”.

However, when he takes the blameand makes it known that he is not happy, he’s criticized as well. They say thathe pouts on the bench with a Gatorade towel on head seeming to symbolize thathe doesn’t want to be bothered by teammates and coaches, but Gatorade is hissponsor so that might be as far as that goes. It’s like Cam Newton is dammed ifhe does and damned if he doesn’t. Football is a TEAM sport and the entire TEAM,including coaching staff, need to be held accountable for losses.

He made a BIG debut last year withtwo 400+ yard games in the first two games of his NFL career and broke allkinds of rookie and quarterback records. However, the team’s 6-10 record leftmuch to be desired from fans and the media. They didn’t win those games when hebroke the records & he was criticized for it. His numbers went downdramatically in the following weeks but they won a couple games. He was stillcriticized for his numbers going down. It’s like he can’t win (bothfiguratively and literally).

Some of the top NFL quarterbackswith Super bowl rings did not have this much pressure & this much to liveup to (winning the Heisman Trophy and National championship in the same season, being the #1 pick and franchise quarterback for a rebuilding team). Tom Bradyhas three Superbowl rings but he clearly had a chip on his shoulder after hewas drafted by the New England Patriots 6th round in 2000. BenRoethlisberger won in his 2nd season, Peyton Manning in his 9thseason and Eli Manning won in his 4th season. However, Eli had the influence of an NFL father (Archie Manning) & brother Peyton behind him to be a winner. Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees were both in the NFL at least 5seasons before they won their first ring. So to question whether Cam is overrated or if he will win a Superbowl ring is CRAZY!!!!!

What we have to understand assports fans is that athletes are human beings too and what they do in theirpersonal lives is none of our business. Cam Newton playing video games on his byeweek did not bother me because it is his business. Any other 23-year-old youngman would play video games in his free time if he wanted to and there wouldn’tbe a problem.

So what I'm saying is...Give Cam a BREAK!!!!! He has the potential to be GREAT and just needs time to mature, grow, and improve himself and his game. I am a DIEHARD Panthers' fan and I will still be there every week to cheer my team and quarterback on for them to WIN!!!!!

Chad & Evelyn: A Marriage Made In Infamy

I'm BAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!! (Did you miss me?) I've been busy working on other projects but I will be having weekly posts again so stay tuned...

~Elle Shanice~ NOTE: I do not condone domestic violence against a woman or man, alleged or proven.

It's no secret that celebrities link up and date for publicity purposes, and the latest example of this is the crash and burn relationship of reality star Evelyn Lozada and former NFL wide receiver Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson.

The now-divorced couple met on Twitter, had several dates broadcast on Lozada's show Basketball Wives, dated for less than a year, got married and had a domestic violence incident where Johnson "allegedly" head-butted her after she confronted him about a receipt that she found for condoms. That caused Lozada to file for divorce, Johnson was subsequently released from the Miami Dolphins, their upcoming reality show was CANCELLED. The divorce was finalized last week, ending their marriage after only 41 days and breaking the seemingly-unbreakable record of 72 days by Kim Kardashian and ex-husband Kris Humphries.

This marriage was doomed from the start: I knew from the beginning that this was a publicity stunt because both of them are media hungry and thirsty for fame. Evelyn (who I call "EVILyn") has become famous for being the ex-fiance of Antoine Walker, but made more of an impact on the show by being a "THUG among women" (as Iyanla Vanzant so eloquently put it). She has been seen throwing drinks, bottles, and expletives at many of her fellow cast mates. Many of the buzz worthy moments from the show involve her in an altercation with either Tami, Jennifer, Meka, etc.

Not to mention the fact that Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson is one of the most outspoken & media hungry players to EVER play in the NFL. Whether at press conferences, on Dancing With the Stars, during elaborate touchdown celebrations, or even appearing on Basketball Wives or The Game, he has always been starving for attention. Why do you think he legally changed his name to "Ochocinco"? He also had a dating show that was on the SAME network as Evelyn's show (Vh1) where he took 64 girls & put them in a bracket like the NCAA tournament (he also had a sports show w/ Terrell Owens).

After the altercation, Evelyn was seen on several media outlets getting her side of the story out. She even appeared on OWN's new show, Iyanla: Fix My Life, which brought ratings records to the network. If you watch Basketball Wives, you know that she has "daddy issue" that she discussed on the show and that Iyanla brought up as well. She discussed her past relationships and how she was willing to put up with anything to feel loved.

My question is: Was this KARMA for Evelyn? It's like she's getting a taste of her own medicine after treating people like that on her show. Even her 10+-year relationship with cast mate Jennifer Williams became strained after Williams gave her opinion on her relationship with Johnson.

She said that when she found the receipt for the condoms and confronted him, he head butted her and that was the last straw. However, it's hard to make the argument that you're upset that he bought condoms when you told him to in lieu of cheating on you and not telling you (see video below).

Ciara and Kim K...Can't We Live Our OWN Lives???

Maybe it is just a coincidence that just a few months after her good friend LaLa Vasquez married Carmelo Anthony and moved home to NYC, Ciara landed a Knick of her own in Amare Stoudemire.

I saw this coming with her attending all of the Knick games with LaLa and taking pictures all around instead of rebuilding her career that she would want to get a piece of this lifestyle for herself, especially if her day job isn't working out anymore. I guess she wants to be a baller wife now, but is it just love or copycat?

Everyone watched as Lala and Carmelo got married and all of her girlfriends looked on with joy and a little bit of sadness because they were all still single. And now that she has moved back home and living in the BIG city of NYC, some of them seem to be flocking to get some of the attention, but why can't they just be who they are and not try to be just like their girlfriend? Yes, they are entitled to date whoever and move wherever they want, but I feel like they are just trying to get what Lala has instead of continuing to do their own thing.

The same can be said about LaLa's other friend and consistent baller boo Kim Kardashian, who just happened to find an NBA player in the NY/NJ area in the Nets' Kris Humphries. Sure she had a show of her own that was shot in the city, but is she sticking around just for the spotlight, as most of her business is done in LA? She is a mainstay in the tabloid with a story every other day about whether or not they are getting married, & I already feel that she is very calculated in every move that she makes, from business to pleasure.

I guess that Lala DOES have the life that everyone wants, because apparently they are breaking their necks to be a part of it. Just be happy for your girlfriend and embrace being single. I would hate to see more of these quickie celebrity romances end up ruined and they be even messed up than before (Do the names BOW WOW and REGGIE BUSH ring a bell?)

Skylar Diggins is GREAT for the Women's Game...

...and NOT just because she is pretty!!!!! A lot of people say that women's basketball is not as entertaining as men's but it sure does help that she is because it gets people to watch more than before.

Tonight's national championship between Diggins' Notre Dame and Texas A&M (shoutout to the other Aggies) is probably NOT the match-up that people wanted to see, as they may have wanted a rematch between Maya Moore's UConn and Stanford, who ended their 90-game winning streak. Honestly, I have not watched a lot of women's basketball this season or since I stopped playing in 2008. However, I have to support ANYONE who beats UConn as they did in the semifinals and I love a good upset.

I'm glad that there is a new star in women's basketball and I would compare her to Candice Parker and Candice Wiggins because they were both able to attract people to watch women's basketball because of their looks. I'm also glad that there are more teams in the conversation other that Tennessee, UConn, Stanford, and Baylor who were the #1 seeds this year.

In the past few weeks, my Twitter timeline has been full of comments about Skylar Diggins and how beautiful she is. Even my boo Chris Brown tweeted about her:

  • chrisbrown: Skylar Diggins ... She's a cutie @ congrats beautiful

I'm also happy to see comments about her game and comparing her to Maya Moore, who has led UConn to the last 2 championships and pretty much dominated the conversation in women's basketball. But there have also been some kinda rude but truthful comments about the game tonight.
  • Skylar Diggins gonna be the only reason imma watch this womens gme 2nite
  •  I might actually watch the NCAA Womens Title Game Tonight Because Of Skylar Diggins' Sexy Ass
  • I'll  watch the game 2nite but I really just wanna look at Skylar Diggins
Either way, the more people watching tonight's game is better for women's basketball. If the game is good then people will like it and if they see a pretty girl, then it's all the more better.

Carmelo to the Knicks...About TIME!!!!!

It has been the talk of the NBA in the past few months: whether Brooklyn native Carmelo Anthony would stay in Denver and sign a contract extension or dabble in free agency. It was almost as big (and aggravating) as when Lebron decided to go to Miami, but instead of waiting until he was a free agent, he decided to demand a trade and eventually return home to play for the Knicks mid-season.

This past weekend's NBA All-Star game was filled with "What will he do?" questions and reporters asking him about the progress of a possible trade every chance they got. There was talk about him going to the Nets, who will be moving to Carmelo's hometown in the next few years and are part-owned by hip-hop mogul Jay-Z. There was even talk about him going to the Lakers as the next big superstar to succeed Kobe Bryant. However, the trade with New York was finally official last night.

Although the Knicks were on the come-up and had to give up half of their roster, pairing Anthony with Amar'e Stoudemire will work out for the Knicks in the long-run. There is also talk about All-Star point guards Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets and Derron Williams of the Utah Jazz were both interested in following Anthony to the BIG Apple when they become free agents next summer. While I do think that it was a little immature of him to demand a trade and subsequently jam a wedge between him and the Denver Nuggets franchise, I do think that he will have a better chance to win an NBA championship with the Knicks in the long-run, not to mention a bigger market and more opportunities as far as endorsements.

I am a fan of Carmelo's, not just because he went to Syracuse like I do now, led them to an NCAA championship, and that he actually gave the college thing a try, before a one-year stay became a requirement for the NBA draft. The biggest thing that I like about him is that he seems like a classy guy and he FINALLY married my girl and fellow Brooklyn native Lala Vasquez last July after a prolonged engagement since 2004. I also love that he is 100% in the life of their son, Kiyan who was born in 2007 and is the cutest thing EVER!!!

I don't see the Knicks winning any title immediately and I sure can't say that they are going to beat my Heat (Lebron ALL DAY!!!!!) but I do think that with Carmelo, Amar'e and a point guard that is brought in, they can definitely shake up the East and bring the franchise back into the discussion. He was on Conan O'Brien last night, CONVENIENTLY right before the news broke that he was now a Knick.

Here is the video:

Tiger Will Think TWICE Next Time

It is always sad to me when a person has to have such a downfall and lose SO much just to realize that they are making mistakes and should fix it.

I am not claiming to know what goes on in the personal life of Tiger Woods but I do know that whenever he gets his life back on track, he will be a little more wary of the consequences for his actions.

It is the same situation as Michael Jackson; you have all of this fame and fortune. With that comes people who will do whatever you want them to do for you. For Michael, it was doctors prescribing drugs and for Tiger, it was women who would have sex with him.

I don't know what happened to make him have all of these indiscretions, but I do think that the price that he is paying will help him get it together. Not just monetarily, but also in the relationship between him and his children.

I heard so many of my guy friends and men on Twitter say that $750 million is too much to pay an ex-wife in a divorce settlement. Although I think that it is a bit much, that is something that Tiger should have thought of before sleeping with 17 other women, or even before he got married. The sum of money seems more and more fair to me because she is entitled to half. She also deserves some compensation because they have children together & being a mother is an invaluable job.

Maybe getting a divorce and losing half of his BILLONS will give him a wake-up call personally and help him be a better man. Hopefully by doing this, his next relationship (if he ever has one again) will be stronger.

"Just Wright" Gives Lesson About Finding True Love

As I watched the movie, I noticed that there were a lot of similarities between me & the main character. When Leslie went on a great date with a cute guy, everything seemed good, until he said that she would be the "perfect homegirl". He told her that he just got out of a relationship & that he wasn't ready for another one. When I heard him say that, it sounded vaguely familiar to me.

I have heard this many times before from guys who think that I am someone that is cool to hang out with but they wouldn't date. Being a bigger girl, I usually use my personality to get guys' attention. I saw some of the same situations that I have been in before, like dressing comfortably for a basketball game and someone else telling me how to dress to catch a man. I felt that this story had a little piece of me in it all the way through.

Queen Latifah stars as Leslie Wright, a physical therapist tired of being a guy's girl. She lives with her friend, Morgan (Paula Patton) who hopes to be an NBA trophy wife. After a Nets basketball game, Leslie helps star player, Scott McKnight (Common) at the gas station. He invites her to his birthday party, where she shows up with Morgan. He meets Morgan and suddenly takes an interest in her. After a quick relationship, Scott and Morgan end up being engaged. After Scott gets injured in the All-Star game, Leslie moves in to help with rehab. When rumors circulate that Scott may not be resigned, Morgan leaves him and Leslie continues to help him get better.

I was so excited to see this movie because it was a movie about basketball and I love a good love story too. The previews were just enough to have me waiting to see it, plus the fact that Queen Latifah was gonna be in it. The icing on the cake was Common, who not only pulled off the roll of NBA player Scott McKnight but also looked
FINE doing it. His silky voice and beautiful smile made it hard to turn away from the screen, plus the fact that he had the body to pass for an NBA player. He obviously had to work out and train for this movie :-)
The movie was a little predictable but most romantic comedies are: boy meets girl; boy falls for girl's friend; friend leaves him & girl has to pick up the pieces; boy falls in love with girl & they live happily ever after. You fall in love with the characters easily and become invested in their story. It was a good love story with a message that true love wins every time and was funny from beginning to end. It gives us BIG girls some hope that you can find love by just being yourself.

Tiger Woods is the New OJ...But Not For "THAT" Reason

General Motors. General Mills. Nike. American Express. Gatorade.

These are just a few of the high-profile companies that are endorsed by Tiger Woods. Not only is he the richest athelete in the world, he is also one of the most marketable.

At least until he crashed his car that night. Now the advertisers are pulling his ads and dropping him like a bad habit because of the crash investigation and alleged "transgressions" (in Tiger's own words).

The same could have been said about OJ Simpson, who @ the height of his career was a high-profile spokesman for Hertz rental car company, Pioneer Chicken, Honeybaked Hams, the pX Corporation, the Calistoga Water Company's line of Napa Naturals soft drinks. He was at the height of his popularity and just off a Hall-of-Fame NFL career when he was charged with the double homicide of his ex-wife and her friend.

Although Tiger has not committed murder, he has played this situation BADLY. First of all, he should have taken the responsibilty and owned up to his wrongdoing instead of hiding while it only gets worse. All of his alleged "mistresses" have been coming out of the woodwork trying to cash in on their affairs with him. The only one that is being smart about it is the 1st one, Rachel Uchitel, who lawyered-up real quick and has since been paid some "hush money" from Woods, which is more than the others will get from talking.

His "squeaky-clean' image is all but shattered because of this, and people are never going to look at him in the same light. Of course he will continue to be a great golfer, but he will never get his image of a family man back, especially since it is so many "alleged" mistresses. We thought that we knew Tiger Woods, and this situation along with OJ's, shows that we didn't.

I watched videos of people's reactions and opinions during the "trial of the century", and some people felt that the OJ that they knew would never do something like that. Apparently, that is what we thought of Woods too...That he would NEVER do something like this.

But guess what; WE WERE WRONG. I think that his celebrity had brought a sense of makes him forfeit his personal life and privacy, even though I feel that everyone makes mistakes, he is a BIG part of our culture, especially in sports, and people are gonna have an interest in this, especially if it is SO JUICY ;-)

When I heard that Tiger Woods was in the hosptial in serious condition, I remember saying a little prayer, thinking that we might lose one of the most popular black atheletes ever. I am not a golf fan, but I will watch if Tiger is in it. That's why it shocked me to learn that he might be slipping away.

And then...came...the DRAMA!!!!! I knew EXACTLY what happened after I heard that he had been arguing with his wife over an alleged affair and all he got from his car crashing into a TREE was some "facial lacerations". I knew right then that Ms. Elin had either slapped him in the mouth or punched him in the jaw. (We don't know what Mrs. Woods is like so we cannot say whether she did or not but that's what I thought happened).

Tiger needs to just MAN UP and take responsibility, before he loses his wife, his endorsements (90% of his total income comes from ads), and his already tarnished image.

Does this look familiar???

The World Hates America...NOT Obama!!!!!

When Chicago was picked as a finalist for the 2016 Olympics, the city and America as a whole wanted to make the best impression possible and the best case to bring the summer games there in 2016. They pulled out all of the stops, and even played their two BIGGEST cards that they had...the BIG O's.

President Obama and Oprah Winfrey; with these two in your corner, who could you LOSE??? Apparently, very easily. Chicago was the 1st city to be eliminated in the finalist judging, even after President Obama and 1st Lady Michelle Obama flew all the way to Copenhagen, Denmark to support the bid.

Of course, the Obama haters made a BIG deal about his high enthusiasm and involvement in the Olympic bid, and criticized that he has more important things going on in his own country than to be "globetrotting" on the behalf of one city.

While this is true, with the wavering support for healthcare reform and the ecomony in ruins, I do not think that Chicago was not going to win the bid in the 1st place. With its reputation for violence, only made stronger by the death of 16-year-old Derrion Albert in the middle of a Chicago street, and its location in one of the coldest parts of the country, the Olympic committee probably looked at ALL of the pros and cons for each city, and the bad must have outweighed the good.

Not to mention the world's current mindset that America is the enemy! It is no secret that the entire world hates the United States, for their own various reason. Whether it is war and the economy, the world thinks that America has a superiority complex and think that they are better than them. In every category, America is a gluttonous and greedy super-bully in the eyes on the rest of the world. They take more than they need and that is why we are the fattest and greediest countries in the world.

I'm not mad @ the Olympic committee for picking Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 games. White sandy beaches & clear blue water would have made my decision easier too. The Olympic Village is probably gonna be on the beach somewhere, & I can't be mad at that, especially since the games are in the summer time...that is a major WIN!!!!!

People Forgot That Serena Was From Compton

I am a BIG Serena Williams fan & I think that she is a successful black woman who is a positive role model for young women...

That being said, I thought that it was HILARIOUS that Serena went OFF on the line judge @ the US Open after a blatantly wrong call that cost her the match and potentially the championship. People forgot that she is from Compton, California, a city that has a reputation of being one of the most dangerous cities in the United States. Don't let the Nike endorsement fool you...LOL :-)

I admit that she was wrong for blowing up, but I don't really blame her for it because she was in an intense moment of the match where she was trying to come back and win. I think that it was just a display of RAW & intense emotion.

It is also a BIG misconception about what was said by Serena. She did not curse @ all, even though it was bleeped by the broadcasters. She might have threatened her, but I highly doubt that she would carry out any threats in the middle of a match on national TV. I just think that the lady got scared when she saw 5'9"& 150 lbs. of solid angry black woman coming @ her...LOL.

This is nothing new in the world of tennis. John McEnroe used to curse & yell @ line judges and officials all of the time. Even the men's #1 player, Roger Federer, was cursing in the finals match @ the same tournament, but did not get disqualified for it. I don't want to make everything a race or gender issue, but sometimes things like this are so BLATANTLY out of order. SMH :-(

Oregon Unfair in KO Suspension

I do not think that LeGarrette Blount should have lost his ENTIRE senior season just for punching Byron Hout in the game. Despite his previous problems off the field & his actions after the altercation, he should not have been suspended just for the punch, when there are so many other issues in college football & sports in general.

First of all, I do not condone violence in any form @ any time. However, being a former athlete, I understand the craziness that goes on in a game, from the trash-talking to fights to technical fouls or flags. Athletes are in a very volatile state when they are on the playing field, and the slightest thing can tick you off, especially if you are losing.

I understand that the guy from Oregon was talking junk all week about the game and the Boise State players knew about it. I also understand where the Boise State player was coming from in the fact that he wanted to let the other player know who's house it was.

I agree that the Oregon player should have been the bigger man and not retalitated to the comments that the other player was making. However, & this is the BIG "HOWEVER", I do feel like the Boise State player should have used "self control" as well and not thrown salt in the open wound that was the 19-8 loss. We will probably never know exactly what was said by either player, but all I have to say is that if he would not have said WHATEVER he said, he would not have set off the fuse that led to him getting knocked out.

Also, I feel that this is not a race issue but an issue of the meaning and perception of race. I can't help but think that the penalty would have been lighter if he had punched a black player...SORRY :-(

Brett Favre Knew Exactly What He Was Doing

If I was Tarvaris Jackson, I would be SOOOOO pissed! He had the chance to be the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings but guess who decided to come out of retirement...AGAIN!!!

Brett Favre, who turns 40 this year, signed a 1-year, $12 million deal & will probably start in the 2nd pre-season game tomorrow against the Kansas City Chiefs.

What makes me mad about this situation is that this is not the 1st time that he has done this, & every time he does, it is made out of a circus. The man has played for 18 seasons & had won a Superbowl or 2 in his time. But if you are willing to put up with his "mind-games", then you must really be desperate.

The Vikings rolled out the red carpet in their pursuit of Favre, & then he lied & said that he was gonna stay retired. He said it himself that he didn't wanna do all of the preparation for the season. So why do you think that he should be able to start if you don't work at it. I don't care if you have played 18 seasons or not. If you can't put in the work, then you shouldn't be still playing, even if someone is desperate enough to sign a 40-year old who didn't do it for the last dumb team who signed him (Hey NY Jets!!!!)

What Else Does This Man Have To Do????

Last week, Michael Vick signed a 1-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. He will be eligible to play in the final two preseason games as well as participate in team meetings and practices.

I had been hearing on ESPN that Vick was close to signing a deal with an NFL team, and all of the commentators said that it probably would not happen. Then as I was watching the Steelers vs. Cardinals rematch game, they announced that Vick had signed with the Eagles.

I have to admit that I was shocked because I was not sure that it would happen either. I applaud the Eagles though, for taking a chance on him and at least seeing how it will turn out. However, it was almost immediate that people starting putting their 2 cents into the situation.

My opinion is simple: HE DID HIS TIME, SO LET HIM PLAY!!!!! Football is his way of life, the way that he makes a living. He spent almost 2 YEARS in jail, sitting and thinking about what he had done. He did not make any money at all and he is entitled to make money for his family (what EVERY man is supposed to do).

I do not know what else people want him to do. He is working with PETA and other animal groups and has shown remorse for the most part. I still cannot believe that people think that he should not play & that they are trippin' off of some dogs. I know that dog fighting is technically against the law, but it is not like he killed hundreds of people. Ben Rothlisberger was accused of rape and it was not like he faced charges, but the critisicm and coverage of it pailed in comparison. Also, when Manny Ramirez violated the MLB Substance Abuse Policy and was given a 50-game suspension, he was still able to work out & even play baseball for minor league teams!!!

I know that the first game that he plays in is going to be crazy and people are going to be heckling him, but if the Commissioner thinks he can play, then he should.

Reggie Leaving Kim K Will Help His Career...Romo leaving Jessica Simpson...not so much!!!

I happen to like Jessica, & I think that it was unfair for all of the Cowboys fans to blame her for Tony's lackluster performance on the field. If you think that Romo was playing bad on the field when he was in a relationship, imagine how horrible he will play no that he is not getting any (@ least not from his girlfriend)? Would you rather have someone who has a girlfriend or someone who has a different girl every night? Neither instance will detour the "distractions" that are reportedly in that locker room :(

Let me be the 1st to admit that I was HAPPY to find out that Kim Kardashian & Reggie Bush had broken up. It is not that I do not like her, because I watch "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" but I think that I support Khloe more so than Kim (that chick is AWESOME).

Reportedly, Reggie wasn’t trying to be Mr Kim Kardashian. She always wanted to be in front of the cameras, and had to live her life out in the public for everyone to see. He wanted some privacy, and he knew he’d never have that with Kim.

First of all, if you would do something on the field then you wouldn't have to be known as "Mr. Kim K". Maybe if you would act like you are worth the Heisman Trophy that you have, you would average more than 3.8 yards a carry. I will defend Kim in this instance, because she is older than he & probably wants to get married (again) & he doesn't right now.

By the way, he probably wasn't trying to "wife up" the girl who is the star in ANOTHER man's sex tape...SMH!!! (Shout out to Ray-J :) )

For someone who is famous for being Paris Hilton's friend or for a sex tape or for having a BIG (fake) BUTT & does not have any noticeable talent (did you see that ATROCITY on DWTS...Is she even a star??? Sorry but I can do ALL DAY on Kim K), she let a "career" get in the way & is letting that sexy chocolate man get away from her. But if she did want him to be her husband, she had to compromise with him & move to New Orleans, where he plays. If your relationship cannot survive the long distance, then you have two options:
1) Move to New Orleans
-or-
2) Break Up
...& it looks like the chose the latter. CALL ME REGGIE!!!!! lol (seriously)

Let Vick Play!!!!!

Michael Vick should be allowed to continue playing football. He met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell last week to discuss possible "conditional" reinstatement as early as this upcoming season.

A possible suspension at the beginning of the season is up to the commissioner, but if he is allowed to play, I would take whatever I could get if I were Vick, considering that many (if not ALL) of the GM's in the league are concerned with the ramifications of taking Vick are. I would take a 3rd-string job to start off with.

He has served his 23-month federal prison sentence and home confinement and has lost millions of dollars in salary and endorsements. As long as he shows remorse for breaking the law and the conduct policy, he should be allowed to play.

There have been several instances where players have dealt with legal problems (Pacman Jones, Plaxico Burress, Tank Johnson, Donté Stallworth) and some others that are continuing to play in the NFL.

I know that dog fighting is against the law, but he has served his time and should be able to go back to "work" (his career is football). There is at least one team that can use him on their roster as either a QB or runningback, because he is good at both positions. Some one she take a chance and invest in him for the sake of their team because he is the only quarterback in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards during the regular season.

And while I am on the subject, why did it take so long for ESPN and all of the other sports media world to report on Ben Roethlisberger's rape allegations but Micheal Vick was "breaking news"??? I know that Ben is the NFL's "golden child" as he should be with 2 SuperBowl rings in 5 years...but DANG!!!!! I'm just saying...

Steve McNair: Victim of a Woman Scorned

In order to keep from speculating, I want to first present facts in the case & make it clear that this post is 100% my personal OPINION.
That being said, I do think that McNair is the victim of a woman scorned...& of his self-inflicted circumstances. First of all, when I heard the news on July 4th from one of my family members, we were all shocked.
I don't know a lot about Steve McNair football-wise, but I did know that he was a pretty decent QB and one of only a few black ones in the league (minus Michael Vick, who I think should be able to play again, but that's for a different post). So when I heard about it, I thought that it may have been the result of a home invasion or something like what happened to Sean Taylor of the Washington Redkins.
As the days progressed, the details of the event began to surface. First was the fact that McNair's body was found in a condo that he was renting with another female body. Now, McNair was married with 4 children, so I thought that it was his wife who was the other victim. However, more details came about that it was identified as Sahel Kazemi, who turned out to be his "girlfriend".
The final details came out that it was indeed a murder-suicide, where Kazemi had used a gun that she purchased to shoot McNair four times (two times in the chest & two times in the head @ close range). She then turned the gun on herself.
First of all, McNair was wrong for having an affair with a 20-year old woman when he was married for 12 years and has four children, two with his wife Mechelle. He should not have put himself in the position to hurt his wife, not to mention this woman who he apperently was not planning on leaving his wife for. She probably thought that she was gonna inherit that "NFL wife" lifestyle and everything.
She was naive to think that he would leave his wife, because he has a pretty good image in the NFL, which has been riddled with its black players' transgessions (from Vick to Plaxico Burress to Donte Stallworth) , and leaving his wife would have been a negative hit to that.
Also, I think that she should have a somewhat satisfied (yeah I said it) with him paying for the condo where she stayed and bailing her out of jail a few days before the murder, among other things.
It is not my business to speculate on why McNair was cheating on his wife or what drove Kazemi to murder him & then take her own life, but I do feel that McNair probably brought it upon himself by telling her one thing and doing another. If he was trying to get her to act how he wanted her to act or leave her, then Kazemi is still at fault but it is a little bit more understandable for me from her perspective. Murder is not right, but emotional distress and a broken heart is not a good combination.
